6th Grade Math Academic Overview * This year begins the State of Tennessee's gradual transition from the Tennessee State Standards to the Common Core State Standards in math. I am really excited about this change because Common Core will put students from almost every state on the same set of standards. * For the next two years we will be making this change, so this year, we will implement a combination of the state standards and common core standards. *If you are interested in receiving a copy of the both sets of standards that will be implemented this school year, just email me and indicate that you would like a copy of the standards. *It is going to take cooperation from students, parents, and teachers to make these common core standards best benefit the students. *Students will take the regular TCAP test (multiple choice format) in April, as well as three other tests called CRAs (Constructive Response Assessment) that do not have a multiple choice format. Students will be expected to explain and show how they arrived at their answer/s by using pictures, charts, graphs, words, etc. *We will be teaching less but learning more...less material introduced but more in-dept focus of material.
